The Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center was formally established on November 28th, 1986 as a non-profit research foundation. The Nansen Center - NERSC - is conducting research within earth science systems in the High North and the Arctic, where we use broad interdisciplinary expertise to investigate and map marine, cryospheric and atmospheric conditions. This is done by using satellite measurement, in-situ measurements, and numerical modeling of sea and sea ice, data assimilation, polar acoustic measurements, climate dynamics and predictions,as well as scientific data dissemination. We both practice and disseminate socially relevant research, and annually produce a large number of scientific articles and national and international reports.
